Recognizing the importance of inner PPE

Not much is known about COVID-19, but, as people go back to work, we are told that, to protect ourselves from getting the disease, we should not leave our homes without PPE—masks, gloves, maybe goggles.  We live in a world that has almost a solution for every problem, but something so important in this super modern world is absent.

I feel what people want at this time is the resilience to adapt to this new type of life— or, as we are saying now, this “new norm.” In order to be resilient we first have to boost ourselves from within. Just as we have the routine of leaving our homes with PPE, we need to likewise develop a routine that includes us donning inner PPE.

To do this, the answer for me is simple: we have to stop and look.

First, notice what is happening within you—become aware of how you feel and think, and what the combination of the two bring into your life.  The second step is to notice what stories our minds create with what we are observing, feeling, and thinking. We can each protect ourselves with inner personal protective equipment through metacognition.

Remember, you can create your own reality even in difficult moments because it all comes down to the choices we make. We are all vulnerable in this situation of global crisis—however if we think out of the box, and we look for future possibilities, we can be more positive and, in doing so, gain a stronger inner immunity, too, to uncertain times.

Someone told me today we need to start going out and build immunity to this virus, but, as I’ve said before, we have to also boost our cores for the challenges that lie ahead. Let’s work together on incorporating our inner PPE, and on leaning into our vulnerability, with positivity, so that our beautiful beings can also have a stronger immunity.

Lastly, during this time, find what makes you feel stronger—doing so will bring a sense of wellbeing into your life.
