Build Generational Legacy

One of the main sources of inspiration for all great leaders has been the creation of generational legacies. These are the leaders who want to not only be regarded favorably but also leave a lasting heritage after their passing.

My purpose and dedication revolve around inspiring families to embark on the journey of building and nurturing their family businesses. A multigenerational legacy is not simply handed down but jointly created. While wealth can be inherited, legacies are forged through shaping, adapting, and weaving a shared dream that resonates with everyone involved. Through this collective investment and reflection, a legacy endures across several generations.

Putting growth and establishing a legacy-supporting culture at the forefront of decisions and processes is paramount. If you aspire to build a lasting legacy that transcends generations, abiding by the following solid foundation of fundamental principles is essential.

  1. "A family that is open to learning and development is open to new concepts and innovations." How close or how open is your family at the moment?

  2. “The family's willingness to develop and learn new skills demonstrates its openness to receiving fresh perspectives and innovations.”

  3. "The future of the family business is what drove the effort to build everything that was built throughout the generations."

  4. ” The current leaders are better leaders when their next gens  are able to create more successes than them.”  Support and empower the younger generation, and put an emphasis on their skills, opportunities, and potential for success in the future.

  5. "Share your strengths, your vulnerabilities, and your gifts."  When the younger generation sees the seniors as unattainable and ideal, they hinder their ability to soar. You must nurture not only their independence but also their potential leadership abilities by allowing them to spread their wings and fly freely.

  6.  "Mistakes are necessary for critical thinking and learning."

  7. “Don't reprimand your future generations when they make mistakes if you want them to be self-assured risk-takers.”

  8. “Being true to one's word is crucial.” You are what you say you are. By earning people's respect, you can eventually earn their trust.

  9. “Investing in personal connections will have an exponentially positive impact on your professional connections.” Seek out opportunities to connect personally, demonstrate your care, and be curious; you want to know what is going on in their lives, including what is challenging, painful, and exciting.

  10. “Integration of family members who are not actively involved in the company board or in operational matters is equally important.” The long-term consequences of bad energy or a lack of interest can be very negative. Make them feel included and as part of the family as well as the business; this will enhance the family business's culture and longevity.

  11. The future is jointly created, not handed down.” It is created every day by each member using their unique perspectives, energies, and connections to achieve a common goal. Always share from the heart while using logic and vision at the same time.

  12. “The example is one you make.” Repeated behaviors create an example. If you are regarded as a leader, both positive and negative behaviors will set an example when they are repeatedly displayed.

  13. “Each family member must have a clear understanding of the family constitution and the family governance in order to follow them with respect and clarity.”

I often begin by asking this question: "How do you envision your legacy?" Today, I ask you: "Are you actively pursuing your dreams and taking the necessary steps to leave a lasting impact?"

If you believe in the meaning of life, embrace a future brimming with possibilities, and aspire to be remembered as a catalyst for change, it's time to embark on a transformative journey.

Are you prepared to create a legacy that spans generations and benefits everyone while also fostering a sense of community that endures long after your passing?
