Changing your environment will not change your reality

In just 8 months we have witnessed the cost-of-living rise causing the rate of homelessness in the U.S. to increase, the continuation of conflict in the Ukraine, and political division worldwide. We have experienced so much uncertainty in the first half of the year, and because we don't fully understand these variables or where they may lead us in the future, they have caused tension and anxiety.

As a result of these emotions people have had a strong desire to escape their reality this summer with domestic and international travel becoming pricey and in high demand. I heard more and more from friends and clients that the idea of "getting away" would help change their current state of mind and ease some of that frustration.

Although this might be partially true, it is only a temporary fix. Taking a mental break during your vacation can help you change your perspective and see what happened from various angles. However, when you return to your daily life, you will revert to your previous state, and all those problems, anxieties, and frustrations will have returned. Creating a new reality involves a lengthy process and significant lifestyle changes.

Deep inner work is required!

Start with a positive outlook and a long look in the mirror. Understand that it's going to be a process that requires consistency. It will call for self-reflection, awareness, and a strategy that aligns with your values. It denotes making adjustments that have an equal impact on all dimensions.

To make 360-degree changes effectively, consider these steps:

  1. Reflect and become self-aware: Understand your current state thoroughly. This process will require you to dig into your thinking, feelings, and behavioral patterns.

  2. Make sure you have clarity on what you want to accomplish. Set realistic goals and a strategy to make them happen.

  3. Work on changing your mindset. Take a moment to identify your limiting beliefs and those that empower you. Replace those negative beliefs with empowering ones. Affirmations are a great way to start your mindset transformation. Regularly repeat these positive statements to yourself, especially during challenging times.

  4. Be consistent. Changing your mindset is an ongoing process. Consistently replacing negative beliefs with empowering ones will eventually lead to a more positive and growth-oriented perspective. Remember that transforming your mindset is not an overnight process, it takes patience, commitment, and self-awareness.

  5. Emotional calibration: Starting your message with emotional calibration supported by emotional intelligence will disconnect you from previous conflicts. This energy shift will allow you to initiate every interaction from a place of power.

  6. Have a clear understanding of your triggers. Avoid bringing narratives packed with conflict. Work on yourself to develop a higher emotional intelligence so your messages can healthily express your true feelings and emotions. Have a clear understanding of the root cause of your triggers to be able to build coping strategies when those become present.

  7. Change your behavior: Observe the behaviors that contribute to you and those that deplete your power. What you repeat is what you will master, so be consistent with your positive actions and you will see sustainable changes.

  8. Your relationships: Put your attention into fostering positive relationships and developing healthy connections. You become one-third of the three people you interact most with. Surround yourself with the power of positivity: make sure those you select to be with are positive people.

  9. Your environment: To embrace complete transformation, ensure your surroundings support the desired changes. If you expose yourself to surroundings that promote growth, they will reinforce your efforts.

  10. Invest in personal development. Read, take courses, and seek guidance to enhance your skills and knowledge. Focus on positive media channels that contribute to your positive mindset,

  11. Put yourself first. It is not only about physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Be kind to yourself during this process.

  12. Always have a contingency plan. Adaptability is essential, and you can tweak things around when necessary. Remember that every journey has its ups and downs.

  13.  Balance realism and optimism. While it's good to be optimistic, it is essential to always have a backup plan.Your second plan will ensure you are not taken by surprise, and will prepare you to juggle chaos when uncertain situations present themselves.

  14. Positive reinforcement fuels motivation. Celebrate accomplishments and remind yourself of them when you need an extra push. You are your best cheerleader so don’t be shy to look back and celebrate your progress. Recognize and celebrate each step you take because as small as those wins might look, they will build momentum.

If needed, look for help. If you are someone committed to change and you see you cannot do it on your own, seek support. Making 360-degree changes takes time, dedication, and commitment. Focus on what is essential and meaningful for you, and remember that you are here for the long haul.

Are you ready to conquer the second half of this year?
