Want to achieve success? Develop a goal-oriented mindset
When we are successful and accomplished, we feel happy and engaged, and even joyful. We feel rewarded for being able to materialize our intentions and bring results—a sense of ownership is developed in us, a sense of meaning. We experience a paradigm shift when we’re in a success mindset, we believe we can do things that, in our previous conditions, seemed impossible.
Regardless of whether you have a professional life or not, having goals will add meaning and direction to your life. They will help make you feel accomplished and provide you with a vision of what to do and when to do it. Goal setting, which is the focus of this article, is a technique that will help you analyze, visualize, strategize, and motivate yourself to achieve both your short-term and long-term goals.
Through the process of goal setting you will clearly flesh out your big vision, or goal, and figure out the small goals, or steps, that are necessary for you to undertake to achieve that grand future vision.
Before we move forward goal, here are some questions for your own review:
What does the future look and feels like?
What mindset is needed to realize that big goal?
What are you lacking—how might you overcome it?
Now, let’s go through the goal-setting process. This is the first step to start.
1: Your vision, your goal
What is ideal vision of your future and where do you see yourself? Why you want that to be your goal? The power of the why is key because this is what will spark your motivation, as your driver, to move forward pursuing that goal.
Key ingredient: Your energy
As start your goal-setting journey it is key that you feel motivated, engaged, and committed to your goal. Without this you will not be successful. You need this energy to move forward not only in good times but also when things become complicated and challenging.
Do the goals you’ve envisioned make you feel excited? If so, write them down. This excitement—this emotional attachment—is key to keep your motivation up in every step of your journey.
Throughout the process of goal setting, and achieving, you should feel engaged and excited. You should feel you are growing and learning every single step of the way. Even when things get rough or challenging you should feel motivated to push through them to reach that coveted goal.
2: Short-, medium-, and long-term goals
Once you have a clear picture of your big goal, set up a plan of smaller, medium-sized goals you can reach that will contribute to your big vision. After you do this, create a list of action steps—small goals— to start moving forward.
Note: Your big goals could be accomplished in 1, 2, 5, even 20 years. It is entirely up to you.
3: Develop a strategy
Now that you’ve created a list of action steps, analyze how you will you do them. How long will they take to get them done? Where will you do them? Once you critically evaluate the action steps, make a priority list and timeline and get to work!
Note: Creativity also plays a part in helping us reach our goals. This journey will be filled with many “Aha!” moments.
4: Accountability
Every week, or a few times a month, evaluate your goals and measure where you’re at in reaching them. Make sure accountability is cornerstone in your life because it will help ensure you keep moving forward. Accountability is key to making the “impossible” possible. A friend or a life or business coach can help you stay the path and keep track of your progress.
A transformational journey
The process of goal setting and moving towards to your goals is a transformational journey filled with challenges, learning, creativity, passion, and growth. The whole trial-and-error process will help you understand the past, observe the present, and confidently embark into the future.
One final note: Throughout this process, make sure you consistently have positive energy. This will facilitate your journey.
